"In the beginning of time,

The skies were filled with flying elephants.

Every night they played down

in the same place in the sky

and dreamt with one eye open.

When you gaze up at the stars at night,

you are looking into the unblinking eyes of elephants,

who sleep with one eye open

to best keep watch over us".

- Gregory Golbert

“Valley of the Hummingbirds” is inspired by the “Hummingbird” tale, narrated by the Kenyan environmental activist Wangari Maathai. Material from different artists whose work focuses on the relationship between the human nature and animals was collected and concluded to a collage of aesthetics coming from Hayao Miyazaki’s world, director Gregory Golbert and painter Elicia Edijanto. Their different approach to the same matter enriches the choreography and the interlocking of several impulses creates a world with new rules. Through states of chaos and order, we barely balance between reality and dream, while the never-ending illusions slowly become what our eyes keep searching for.

Witnessing an ecosystem in crisis and the poetic act of self- sacrifice.
